On the evening of February 9, you are invited for an evening of song in honour of Rumana Monzur. Last summer, Rumana was attacked and blinded by her former husband, and since then she has been struggling with the challenges of her new life here in Vancouver. 'Songs unsung' commemorates all victims of violence against women, and honours Rumana's courage in the face of so much adversity.
The event begins with a reception at 6:30pm in the GSS Ballroom at UBC. A
special concert will begin at 8:00pm (doors 7:30pm) in the Roy Barnett Hall,
UBC School of Music. This concert will feature performances by the Lungs
and Limbs Ensemble, with songs composed especially for the event by the
Composers' Collective.
Tickets can be obtained from GSS main office, 225-6371 Crescent Road, UBC.
The tickets can be purchased by donation (suggested $15). All proceeds will
be donated to the Rumana Monzur fund.
