Our event on May 28th, 2010, Uniting Diverse Communities to End Violence Against Women was an enormous success. It brought over 200 people together to enjoy fabulous food and entertainment at the lavish Pearl Palace Banquet Hall. We Can BC received a special endorsement from the Governor General, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean for the event, which included a silent auction, three extremely engaging speakers as well as theatrical and musical performances.

Speaking to the issue of violence against women was Indira Prahst, sociology professor at Langara College; Jim Sinclair, President of the BC Federation of Labor and Anastasia Gaisenok, representing the Justice Education Society and We Can BC. Audiences were treated to a theatrical performance by Neworld Theatre (in the picture below), which brought the issue of violence against women into real-life terms, and the evening was closed with gypsy musicians Roma Gry.

Thank you to all who attended! Special mention also to the BCTF, PICS, CBC Radio, BC Teachers Federation, Justice Education Society, Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS), Hospital Employees Union, Vancouver and District Labour Council, and the Pearl Palace for their generous support.
